March 10th – March 31st: “Glitterati”

March 10-31, 2012

The dA Center for the Arts is proud to present Glitterati, a group exhibition. For our second open show this year, the public has been invited to submit any art piece that explores all things glittery, shiny, sparkly, and metallic. This exhibition will be on display March 10 through March 31, 2012. The dA will be hosting an opening reception in conjunction with the Pomona Arts Colony Second Saturday Art Walk on March 10, 2012, 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Glitter is defined as an assortment of small pieces of aluminum foil, bismuth oxchloride, copolymer plastics, or other materials painted in iridescent and metallic colors to reflect light. Better known as tiny pieces of sparkling material used for decoration which produce bright, shimmering, reflected light. It is often associated with all things that sparkle, glisten, twinkle, gleam, scintillate, and glint, sometimes reflecting gaudy, flashy or superficial glamour; other times reflecting the strong emotions within a person. Glitterati explores the communities interpretation of glitter as a material.

Glitterati follows in the dA’s tradition of opening its walls to local artists three or four times each year. For each open show broad parameters are established, allowing most local artists to participate while still narrowing the exhibit as a whole to a cohesive topic. Glitterati follows last month’s open exhibition, Simply Red, which celebrated its 25th year. Other recent open exhibitions includeDay of the Dead, A Glass Menagerie, Out of the Woods, and Heavy Metal.

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 10, 2012, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
