October 13 – November 24, 2012

The dA Center for the Arts, in celebration of National Latino Heritage Month is proud to present the 10th Annual Aztlan exhibition Aztlan en la Mixla (In the Mix), on display October 13th through November 30th, 2012. Featuring works by over 40 artists, this cross-cultural, mixed-media show incorporates all components of Chicano expressionism, drawing inspiration from traditional and contemporary Chicano artists. This year’s exhibition will also include non-Hispanic artists that work in the same genre.

Aztlan en la Mixla (In the Mix) will offer a retrospect of Chicano Art starting from the onset of the Chicano movement during the 1960s, when art flourished with originators such as Gilbert “Magu” Lujan, Frank Romero, Willie Herron, Patssi Valdez, and others. Contributing artists include renowned figures such as Wayne Healy, David Botello, and Margarete Garcia. Contemporary artists who have been inspired by the Chicano movement will also be shown, including John Valedez, David Flury, and others who ushered in a new era of Chicano art with their fresh takes on the movement. Each artist in the exhibition brings a unique history with the Chicano Art Movement and a sense of the meaning of Aztlan.
